Students get inspired at the Basil Hetzel Institute!

students from the Australia-China Cultural Promotion Association raised money for The Hospital Research Foundation Group.

Five school students who raised money for The Hospital Research Foundation Group (THRFG) were given the opportunity to see and hear firsthand how their donations are playing an important role in supporting medical research.

Earlier this year a group of 12 children, who are part of the Australia-China Cultural Promotion Association’s (ACCPA) Young Entrepreneurs Program, raised $2000 by selling fruit juice during Adelaide’s Lunar New Year street party, with the goal to use the funds to help people in need.

To say thank you for their incredible generosity, the students were given a special tour of the Basil Hetzel Institute where they got to see some of Adelaide’s premier researchers hard at work in the labs.

This included researchers from the Clinical Pharmacology Research Group and the ENT Surgery group, among others.

Director of Research at the BHI, Professor Guy Maddern, also spoke with the students about the field and how donations help fund their work, while Dr Neil McMillan shared some highlights of the work being done by the Vascular team on diabetes-related foot ulcers.

ACCPA Honorary Secretary Xiaojing Zhai said she was so thankful to THRFG for organising the tour.

“We really appreciate what the Foundation and also the Institute staff have done to give the kids this valuable opportunity to know more about the charity and to know more about the scientists and their work, its really amazing for them,” she said.

“Maybe this tour will change their journey in the future, maybe some of the words from the researchers or what they have seen today will have inspired them.”

THRFG supports world-leading research and patient care services in more than 60 areas of disease and illness, so every donation makes an impact.

We’re extremely thankful to ACCPA and their generous donation and look forward to cultivating our relationship in the future.
