About usThe Hospital Research Foundation Group in WA builds on a proud 30-year history of supporting Western Australians, starting in 1996 as the Fremantle Hospital Research Foundation.
Today, the Group continues to grow, invest and expand its footprint in WA, building on a proud legacy of supporting innovation and excellence in medical research across every community in the state, including those in regional and remote areas.
Since our inception, we have invested nearly $8 million into critical research initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Western Australians.
Addressing areas of unmet need in WA is a key focus for our organisation. We are proud to partner with many businesses, individuals and the WA Government’s Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund and Minister for Medical Research Hon Stephen Dawson to deliver multi-year support to Western Australian researchers and clinicians.

A new four-year project will explore why Aboriginal fathers are sometimes not engaged in the antenatal care process, and how this can be improved through greater engagement and more culturally appropriate communication.
The newly-funded fellowships will address key areas of unmet need in Western Australia – focusing on support for dementia, Aboriginal communities, and regional areas.
Wearable technology that monitors sleep, physical activity and mental wellbeing is being trialled by UWA’s Dr Michael Kyron to help detect and prevent declines in mental health.
An important exercise program led by Murdoch University is helping children on the autism spectrum become more active.

The Hospital Research Foundation Group proudly supports WA researchers and clinicians who are dedicated to finding new ways to diagnose, treat and cure disease.
We have partnered with the Western Australian Government to deliver impactful grants and fellowship opportunities in Priority Populations and Precision Medicine, while continuing our long-term grants programs through the Nicholas Way Fund and the Barry Marshall Travel Awards.
