Waste collection to support critical medical research in WA

The Hospital Research Foundation Group and REMONDIS Western Australia have embarked on a unique partnership that will help fund critical medical research in WA.

Endorsed by Western Australian Return Recycle Renew Ltd (WARRRL), which delivers the Containers for Change program in WA, the partnership has the potential to raise much needed funds for medical research in WA and deliver real environmental benefits at the same time.

Under the partnership, REMONDIS WA will supply clearly marked collection bins across participating sites, with all refund proceeds directed to The Hospital Research Foundation Group (THRFG).

Funds raised via the partnership will support vital medical research and critical health services across Western Australia.

This unique initiative aims to inspire widespread participation by demonstrating how small, everyday actions—such as recycling containers—can collectively make a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of the community.

Greg Richardson, REMONDIS WA Project Manager, said the program would deliver a range of medical and environmental benefits across the state.

“This is a unique and incredibly rewarding project that we are very proud to be part of.

“It allows us to do what we are passionate about as a business—support recycling and improve the environment for the next generation—while also directing funds to an area as critical as medical research which benefits us all.

“Partnering with The Hospital Research Foundation Group means these contributions will support medical research and areas of unmet need across WA and we are incredibly proud to be driving this program forward.”

Growth and Impact Lead at The Hospital Research Foundation Group in WA, Ben Wilson, said the partnership was an exciting one for a range of reasons.

“We are thrilled to partner with REMONDIS who are driven to create meaningful impact across Western Australian communities.

“The funds raised will support research and health programs right here in Western Australia, giving hope to thousands of people affected by disease and illness.

Tim Cusack, Chief Executive Officer, WARRRL, said that the organisation was thrilled that important stakeholders such as REMONDIS WA were leaning in and embracing Containers for Change in multiple ways across their business.

“Donating the refunds from their containers collected to the Hospital Research Foundation Group will help fund very important research programs for Western Australian families.

“We congratulate both organisations on the successful partnership and encourage all Western Australian businesses to collect their containers and support one of our state’s many deserving charities and causes.”

The program kicks off this month and is expected to grow month on month as more sites come on board.

REMONDIS Australia has more than 24,000 customers across Australia and has provided waste collection, treatment and resource recovery services in Australia since 1982 and is now one of the largest waste and recycling companies in the country.
