Vitamin C mega-dose trial to save lives from sepsis

Dr Mark Plummer, smiling at camera, is leading an innovative trial into sepsis treatment.

A new treatment for sepsis – a horrific infection which can result in limb amputations and even death – is being trialled at the RAH thanks to funding from The Hospital Research Foundation Group.

The trial will test Vitamin C dosages at 20x the standard treatment, equating to 2500 oranges or 240 Vitamin C tablets!

About 5000 Australians die due to sepsis each year. Dr Mark Plummer from the Royal Adelaide Hospital and University of Adelaide, is leading the innovative trial.

WATCH how this research could have helped someone like Caroline, who lost both her legs after contracting sepsis during childbirth.
