Two highly renowned Australian service personnel join MESHA
Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA), part of The Hospital Research Foundation (THRF) Group has appointed two highly renowned Australian service personnel Major General Cheryl Pearce AM and Commissioner Georgeina Whelan AM CSC and Bar.
MESHA is on track to be recognised as a world-class collaborative research institute focused on optimising the mental health and wellbeing of service men, women and their families through research and service delivery.
The two senior appointments will further strengthen MESHA’s purpose to actively inform and improve policy, programs and services for current and former serving military members, emergency service personnel and their families.
Major General Cheryl Pearce AM
Major General Cheryl Pearce AM is born and raised in country South Australia and brings with her extensive experience including being one of few females to rise through the Army ranks to Major General.
She is currently the second female ever appointed by the United Nations to lead a peacekeeping mission, as the Forces Commander – United Nations Peacekeeping Force based in Cyprus.
Commissioner Georgeina Whelan
Commissioner Georgeina Whelan is the current Commissioner for the ACT Emergency Services Agency after a stellar 30-year career in the Australian Army.
She brings strong leadership experience form across defence and emergency services management roles and is passionate about the health and wellbeing of first responders and current and former serving military members and their families.
THRF Group CEO Paul Flynn welcomed the two new members to the Board of Governors and thanked current Chair Brigadier Alison Creagh AM CSC (Ret’d) for recruiting the two new appointments.
“It is exciting for a South Australian profit-for-purpose organisation to be backed by individuals with such a plethora of experience who will elevate the existing reputation we’ve been able to build with MESHA,” Paul said.
“I was also delighted to also learn that Major General Pearce plans to eventually return to South Australia, which will be a significant boost to the South Australian business community.”
