On International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day (15 February) we are excited to welcome Associate Professor Jordan Hansford, a children’s brain cancer specialist who brings his vast experience to our Michael Rice Centre for Haematology and Oncology at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Assoc Prof Hansford is an internationally acclaimed clinical oncologist who will help develop lifesaving care for our neuro-oncology patients and those referred to South Australia for proton therapy – a precise and less invasive radiotherapy that destroys cancer cells and minimises damage to healthy tissue.
He says he’s already hit the ground running in his new role as The Hospital Research Foundation Paediatric Radiation Oncology Fellow.
“I am most looking forward to re-establishing my connections with the team in the Michael Rice Centre and expanding the neuro-oncology practice in SA, as we move towards hosting proton radiation patients from around the country,” he says.
Associate Professor Hansford will also continue to build upon his world-class cancer research throughout collaborations with the SAHMRI and The University of Adelaide. A truly significant appointment for paediatric cancer research in South Australia.
