Teddy Bear Hospital builds healthy habits for rural school children

TeddyBearHospital1

A group of Adelaide University health and medicine students travelled to the Riverland recently to educate regional primary school kids about the importance of looking after their health.

Studying medicine, nursing, oral health, allied health and psychology, the 10 future health professionals delivered a unique Teddy Bear Hospital program for Reception to Year 3 students across the region.

The initiative is run by the Adelaide University Rural Health Alliance (AURHA) and aims to foster positive perceptions of healthcare among rural children, encourage healthy habits, and provide university students with valuable rural exposure.

The group visited Loxton North Primary School, Berri Primary School, Renmark West Primary School, Monash Primary School and Barmera Primary School. The children were actively engaged in the activities, and loved an excuse to bring their teddies to school for the day!

Across the three days in the Riverland, the group also toured the Riverland General Hospital in Berri, where they learnt about the importance of the 24/7 emergency, acute and specialised medical care healthcare service in rural SA.

On the final night, the group visited Hotel Renmark for a delicious meal. They also enjoyed visiting the Murray River, Lake Bonney and supporting local businesses during their stay.

The Hospital Research Foundation Group was proud to sponsor the trip, alongside contributions from Hotel Renmark and Renmark Lions Club.
