Fighting for the everyday
For Australians like Ava, Jess, and Andrew, the ‘everyday’ is even more special.
For Australians like Ava, Jess, and Andrew, the ‘everyday’ is even more special.
Every day we experience simple moments; a dinner with family, a child’s laughter, or a peaceful morning walk. For families facing disease and illness, these simple moments take on extraordinary importance.
For Australians like Ava, Jess, and Andrew, the ‘everyday’ is even more special.
Ava was severely anaemic and not breathing at birth due to an undiagnosed placental tear.
Two years later when Ava’s brother Logan was born, he also experienced complications at birth and had to undergo emergency brain cooling to prevent brain damage.
“If it weren’t for the investment in medical research, neither of our children would be here today,” says Ava’s mum, Tahnae.
“I don’t take any moment with them for granted, knowing how close we came to losing both,” Tahnae reflects.
Thanks to the research-informed team at Fiona Stanley Hospital, today, Ava and Logan are perfectly healthy and happy, now age six and four.
At 40, Jess noticed subtle signs—shoulder pain and arm heaviness—before receiving a life-changing Parkinson’s diagnosis.
“Nothing prepared me for realising Parkinson’s would be part of my life forever,” she says.
Despite the challenges, Jess has shown incredible resilience, embracing both her limitations and strengths. “I wouldn’t take my Par
kinson’s away now—it’s made me who I am.”
Today, Jess leads an active life, inspiring others while pursuing her dreams.

At 33, Andrew noticed a lump in his testicle but kept it to himself, fearing the worst.
His suspicions were confirmed with a testicular cancer diagnosis.
“Embarking on chemotherapy was undeniably one of the most challenging experiences of my life.”
says Andrew.
Thanks to the incredible power of cancer research and care, Andrew is on the road to recovery and determined to share his story to help others like him who may be facing a similar, life changing diagnosis.
