A/Prof Timothy Mathew was a pioneering figure in the field of kidney health. His 25 years as Director of the Renal Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital transformed the landscape of kidney disease treatment and research in Australia. Under his leadership, the unit gained international recognition for its clinical excellence and groundbreaking studies.

A/Prof Mathew’s legacy extends beyond his time at TQEH. He was instrumental in establishing early organ donation protocols and systems in South Australia, a model that was adopted nationally. His work in developing the ANZDATA Registry, recognised as the world’s finest of its kind, laid the foundation for essential data-driven research in kidney disease.
